Fear

After my recent C-section, I've developed new fears.

Fear of coughing, fear of sneezing, fear of laughing and fear of tripping over stuff on the floor and ripping open the wound.

I have successfully avoided doing all of the above. Well, I did choke on rice a couple of days ago and had spontaneously coughed. I can't remember if it hurt.

I have also not sneezed in the last 16 days. It hasn't been easy. The urge has been there but I try to intercept them before it happens.

I feel as if I should just go ahead and sneeze and see if it actually does hurts. But I'm too chicken to do so. So I'll just avoid sneezing.

I know laughing too much hurt during the first few days. I haven't laughed hard or loud since. Which is kind of hard since I'm surrounded by jokers.

I sense that the princess will be quite the joker as well.

I have also developed other fears. Totally not related to the surgery. Fear of getting caught for washing my hair. Fear of my parents finding out I slept with the fan at speed 3.

Okay, maybe it's not really fear. Just want to avoid getting an earful.

Confinement sucks.

2 more days till I see the husband.

Can't wait!!

hi, i'm just a random lurker. i enjoy your blog very much! i'm a bit confused though...why the confinement and no washing of hair? just curious. i've gathered it's a practice steeped in tradition, yes?

Hi! I have a lurker. Cool. :) Glad you enjoy my blog. The confinement is practiced in most cultures here. The confinement is to allow for the mother to fully recover from delivery. During this period, the mother is confined to the house, and she's just expected to lie down and rest. It ranges from 44 days to 2-3 months.

I'm really not quite sure how to explain why you can't wash your hair. But it has something to do with the well being of the mother.

You can tell I'm not a very good confinement patient. :)

If I am not mistaken, the Chinese believe that the washing of the hair has to do with the mother being in contact with water, which is cooling. The cooling effect causes wind in the person and subsequently the wind would lead to other ailments that would hinder or interrupt recovery. Take that with a grain of salt, as I am not an expert.
