The misadventures of Aznin & Ann

We're back from our mini honeymoon.

Oh, I didn't mention it? Okay. Aznin and I went off to Lumut for the weekend. We actually had a friend's wedding to attend. But since it was only the two of us, I regarded it as a mini honeymoon. (Before it becomes, the three of us.)

We stayed at The Orient Star. Nothing fancy. Most of the hotels in Lumut were booked up due to the long holidays so we were pretty lucky to have snagged us a room when we booked it last week.

The room was okay. The food, not so. However all that didn't matter cause we didn't intend to eat there anyway.

We left home at 12 p.m. on Saturday. Stopped by for some food before starting the journey.

We took the highway all the way to Ipoh and then tried to look for the route to Lumut. We didn't have any idea how to get there. Haha. We had no map or directions either.

We stopped by Giant, Sunway City Ipoh to buy a map but couldn't find any. Decided to have bad food at Marrybrown. I'm sorry, why do people like Marrybrown? The food is BAD. Oh well, a story to tell the kids, I guess.

Miraculously, there was a sign to Lumut when we left Giant. I guess, we were meant to go to Giant for a reason. I am not sure what the reason behind having Marrybrown was though.

So we followed the signs, got lost a bit, found more signs and finally ended up in Lumut. The drive there was fairly interesting. Other than your idiot drivers, there were interestingly name places. Like, Elephant and Castle (It's the name of a housing developer), then there was Kingdom Pusing (name of housing estate). They come up with the weirdest names I tell you.

Perak is a pretty sleepy town and I don't think I'd be able to live there without complaining daily about the things I'm lacking.

We finally reached Lumut at around 6. Checked in and lay about abit before going out to find some food.

There weren't that many food joints around in Lumut. They did have a KFC though. Lumut basically consists of 2 rows of shops on either side of a road. Most shops sell seafood of the dried variety. There are 4 nasi kandar shops but only 1 is worth eating at. They also have 1 'Malay' restaurant (the name of the shop was restoran melayu r&b), and 1 italian restaurant. That's about it.

For dinner, we ate at the nasi kandar shop after running out of options. I had maggi goreng while the hubby had nasi kandar ayam madu. No one shall tell my parents that I had maggi goreng or I shall hunt you down.

Thankfully, they did have a 7-Eleven there so we stopped by to get some bread to eat with the nutella we had brought along. (Which we ended up not eating at all. Typical.) I also bought some milk and orange juice for breakfast the next day.

After dinner, I decided it was only right if we stopped by the brides house to perhaps help out. So after lying about in bed and asking for directions to the house, we left the hotel.

I ended up doing nothing there. Except maybe being asked to sit down and have a drink alot. I kept telling them I'm pregnant, not dying. They were really sweet though.

Watched my friend have her mehndi put on, then we left.

Slept till 9 the next morning and got ready for the nikah ceremony which was at 10. We arrived a little late though. But the main even hadn't started yet. Sat down, watched the life changing event and took some photos. Went back to my friend's house after the ceremony to have lunch.

We decided to drive around about after leaving my friend's house at 12. Drove to Sri Manjung. Wanted to get a drink but they didn't have a 7 Eleven so we stopped by Billion (their local supermarket). That place was crowded and they didn't sell any drinks. Most of their vegetables were rotting and there were flies swarming them. Ewww.. We left hastily.

Drove further to Sitiawan. Sitiawan was such a small town that we drove through it without even knowing!! Go figure. We only realized we had passed it after driving away. Made a U-turn and saw the sign 'Sitiawan'. More stories to tell the kids.

Drove around the rows of shops, found nothing interesting. Finally stopped by a sundry shop to get some drinks and an Ice cream. We drove back to Teluk Batik to check out the beach.

The beach was crawling with people. We didn't even bother getting out of the car. We just drove past. The weather was so hot. One had to wonder what on earth those people on the beach were thinking.

Drove back to the hotel and slept till 5:30 p.m.

Felt hungry so we walked to KFC and had ourselves a hearty meal (the initial plan was to have something light, but somehow we ended up ordering a full meal). The KFC was packed with people. I've never seen so many people in KFC in my life. I may be exaggerating but there sure was a lot of people in there.

Got back to the hotel and got ready for the wedding.

Arrived the resort at around 8. The mother of the bride had just arrived too. We spoke a bit and I was told to sit down. I wore heels that night. Just for my friend. My feet hurt though due to the water retention. *sigh* I am no longer a size 3.

The bride arrived around 8:30. Had the 'majlis tepung tawar' where the guests put rice and scented flowers in the brides and grooms hands and later sprinkle rose water. I know not of the significance though.

The buffet table was then opened and we had some food. After eating, the bride and groom went of for a painstakingly long time to change clothes for the cake cutting ceremony. Most of the guests left during this time even though the mc was urging them to be patient and wait around.

However, most of them had little children with them and couldn't stick around.

** side note: I just sat down in the most uncomfortable position because my calves were stiff and my legs were hurting. Thankfully, it paid off and my legs feel much better.

By the time the bride and groom got back, most of the guests had left. There was more photo taking and then the cake cutting. I snapped some photos with my friend and then it was time to go. The hubby was tired, and my feet were killing me.

We said our goodbyes and headed back to the hotel. I could hardly walk straight.

We slept till 7:30 the next morning and went down for the breakfast. It was nothing spectacular and I no longer mind that that only gave us breakfast for 1 day despite us staying there for 2 days.

We packed up and left the hotel at 11 and started our journey home. The journey back was much better planned and we pretty much knew where we were going, most of the time. We stopped by Teluk Intan for lunch and a quick break.

We went back via the state road all the way. So we didn't have to pay for tol. It was all right. The roads were well maintained and the traffic was light. Got to see the many sights and the usual peddlers by the roadside.

Arrived home around 5:30 p.m. to an empty house.

All in all, it was a great trip. I got to see my close friend get married. I got to be apart of a milestone in her life and we met some nice people. I also got to spend some time with my hubby. Just the two of us. In a couple of months, it'll be three.

Even though we didn't do much there, I can safely say that I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

To my friend Helda and her husband, I wish them the best of luck in their life together. Oh, and thanks for including Aznin and I in your joyous occasion.
