I was tuned into MixFM as I was driving to Uni this morning. As usual, Richard and Shaz was on air. The topic of the day was, "What event/item made you feel like an adult while growing up". I found this rather interesting.
A few callers that called in had different things that made them feel like adults.
One of them said, paying bills, tiredness and going back to his hometown and seeing the 3-4 yo kids you used to know being taller than him. Hehe.
Another caller said, his balding head makes him feel like he's in adulthood. That and the fact that he started dressing more like a 'gentleman'. i.e. Slacks, and ties.
Shaz's event that made her feel like she was an adult was when she put together a sewing kit. Hehe. Sewing = Old ladies. Cute.
A lady caller, which was my favorite, said what made her feel like she was an adult was when she could buy things for herself and her parents. Because, when she was young her parents would buy things for her and now she's buying things for her parents. That's the sweetest one.
Naturally, I started thinking about what made me feel like I was finally an adult. I have to say it's the paying bills. I never used to pay my own bills before, but now I do. I go to the banks every month to pay off the car and credit card bills. Of course not with my money, I'm not employed you see. But it's still a big deal.
I now depend on my husband for my livelihood. So he pays the bills and feeds me and clothe me. I have to be more prudent in my spending. So eventhough I don't pay the bills, I do have to watch how I manage the money I have to make sure I'm not a burden to my hubby.
That has to be the one thing that made me realise I'm no longer a little girl. I'm still daddy's girl though. The reason I didn't say marriage is what made me feel like an adult is because, my I'm still treated like a little girl and I'm still spoiled and my mother is still very protective over me.
Maybe the next thing would be becoming a mother.
Wonder when that will be.
